Zapruder Footage of Fesenko in Ukraine Vs. Hungary

August 27th, 2009 by Salt City Hoops

This summer has been a bust for Kyrylo Fesenko by almost any measure. It’s all been widely documented: Skipping the Jazz summer league to play with the Ukrainian National Team and then playing poorly and eventually having some kind of run-in with the coach that led to Fesenko leaving the team early. There were even rumors that the final straw was leaving the bench to take a smoke during a game.

I find the smoking story hard to believe, so I’ve embedded the entirety of the Ukraine/Hungary game, so if somebody who speaks a little Russian/Ukrainian/Hungarian wants to watch and let us know what they say, it might give us a little insight.

Deron Williams and Kyle Korver in Gateway Dodgeball

August 25th, 2009 by Salt City Hoops

Deron Williams continues his quest to be the public relations anti-matter to Carlos Boozer. And bringing Kyle Korver along makes him invincible in the 12-84 yr old women demographic. As mentioned by our good friends at Hardwood Paroxysm, having Masha Kirlenko’s new single as the backing track cements the genius.

Here’s the link to “Masha K” teaming up with Flo Rida:

The Kevin O’Conner Philosophy of Recruiting

August 24th, 2009 by Salt City Hoops

Leftover from Steve Luhm’s Sunday feature on Kevin O’Conner is the key to the Jazz GM’s philosophy:

“We’d lose a recruit and I’d get down,” O’Connor said. “But he’d say, ‘Hey, if the guy doesn’t want to wear [our] uniform, move on to the next one and go to work. Try to outwork people.’”

O’Connor has applied the advice when recruiting free agents for the Jazz.

“Everybody is always worried about free agency,” he said. “But, being a small market, there are certain players we just aren’t going to get. So it’s, ‘O.K., let’s move on.’ … You can get good players anywhere. You can compete. I look at it as a challenge.”

Referring to Deron Williams and Jerry Sloan, O’Connor continued: “I can’t make Utah any warmer in the winter or move it any closer to L.A. But if somebody understands they are going to play with a great point guard here, for a coach who’s going to put them in position to succeed here and play in front of the best fans in the NBA here, then we have an ability to get guys.”
